Westport to celebrate 'best place to live award'
A Celebration Day will be held in Westport on September 9 after John O’Callaghan successfully nominated the town in the Best Places to Live in Ireland competition.

Eagles return to Connemara
They are magnificent birds and they have returned to Connemara after 100 years. A pair of white tailed eagles has made the sweeping expanse of mountains and coastline between Roundstone and Ballyconneely their home temporarily at least. If the eagles decide to stay and have a family they could put added life into tourism in Connemara as well. They have come west again as a result of a programme started five years ago to restore the majestic species to Ireland.

Bus Éireann Pilots Ireland’s First Ever Natural Gas-Powered Bus
The Minister for Public and Commuter Transport, Alan Kelly, TD, has officially announced Bus Éireann’s trial of the country’s first natural gas-powered bus in a move that may help reduce fuel costs and benefit the environment. The natural gas-powered city bus is operating across a number of city routes in Cork until August in a trial that will examine the potential fuel and emission savings from the vehicle, as well as its operational performance. The trial is being undertaken in partnership with Bord Gáis Networks

Lemon, lime and peppermint sorbet
200g sugar
275ml water
zest and juice of 5 limes
zest and juice of 5 lemons
a small bunch of fresh peppermint


Directions
Place the sugar and water in a pan, bring to the boil and simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from the heat and allow to cool for a while. Zest and squeeze your limes and lemons and chop your peppermint. Mix everything together in a plastic or earthenware container and place in the freezer. Generally a sorbet takes 2 hours to set. Try to stir it around every 30 minutes if you remember
