Excess of 50,000 Expected For Rally Weekend
More than 50,000 motorsport enthusiasts are expected to converge on Donegal this weekend for what is the only three-day rally left on the Irish Tarmac Rally calendar. With a new title sponsor, Joule, organisers say that the 2015 event is filled with every rev of excitement that sees ‘Donegal’ at the top of the board for the competitors.

Armada Cannons Recovered From Streedagh
A local group has “welcomed with delight” the announcement on the 17th June, of funding for the preservation of the Spanish Armada wrecks site at Streedagh. “This development is something that we have being working towards for the past five years,” said Eddie O’Gorman, Chairman of Grange and Armada Development Association (GADA).He was speaking in the wake of the recovery from the sea near Streedagh beach of cannons from the wreck of one of three Armada ships, which foundered off there in 1588.

Kickham Barracks Regeneration
Just over three years after its closure, the first stage in the planning process to transform Kickham Barracks in Clonmel into a civic, cultural and educational centre was taken on Monday. Members of Tipperary County Council unanimously approved a proposal to move to the Part 8 planning stage to put a master plan for the eleven acre site on public display.

National Heritage Week 2015
National Heritage week runs each year, during the last week of August, many national and hundreds of local community organisations participate by organising events throughout the country. Many of the events that take place during the week are free and the programme highlights the abundance of great work that is carried out in all communities in Ireland to preserve and promote our natural, built and cultural heritage. Gravity Festival
On the 12th & 13th September 2015, the Heritage town of Cahir, Co. Tipperary is playing host to a two day Festival in the Inch Field which is an Island in the centre of town and home to the famous 10th Century Cahir Castle. Gravity 2015 is being held in conjunction with with The South Tipperary Hospice Movement who are celebrating their 25th Anniversary this year.

Shannon Airport New Route
Shannon Airport’s summer season will get a boost with Stobart Air’s six-times weekly service to Birmingham commencencing 18th June 2015.
The service, operated under the Aer Lingus Regional brand, will deliver an additional 45,000 seats into Shannon and bring to 35 the total number of destinations operated from the airport in 2015.

Apricot and Almond Cake with Oranges in Caramel
Serves 8 - 10
225g (8 oz) butter
225g (8 oz) sugar
Juice of 1 lemon
75g (3 oz) ground almonds
100g (4 oz) plain flour
100g (4 oz)dried apricots, chopped in the food processor
3 Quality Assured large eggs, beaten
Oranges in caramel
4 large oranges, peeled and sliced
4 tablesp. sugar
125ml (¼ pint) water
To Cook
Set oven 180°C (350°F) Gas Mark 4
Line a shallow 23cm cake tin with baking parchment.
Beat the butter and sugar together, until light and fluffy, add the lemon juice and ground almonds. Fold in the flour, apricots and eggs. Transfer the mixture to the lined cake tin, smooth the top and bake for approx. 35 mins., until firm to the touch.
Serving Suggestions
Place the oranges in a flat dish, heat the sugar in a heavy pan, allow the sugar to brown add the water and boil until you have a caramel sauce. Pour it over the oranges. Serve with the cake
