Welcome to Carlow, known as the "Celtic Centre of Ireland" because of the numerous historic and ancient sites, including on the outskirts of Carlow town, "Browne's Hill Dolmen", a portal tomb over 5,000 years old, it's capstone weighing over 100 tons is reputed to be the largest in Europe.
Carlow makes an excellent base for touring the "Sunny Southeast". There is no shortage or things to do, from sightseeing of historic castles, Dolmens and gardens to fishing, boating, riverside walks, hillwalking, golfing and horse riding.
County Carlow has two renowned rivers, the "Barrow" and the "Slaney", with some of the most delightful stretches of waterways in Ireland. The Barrow offers numerous oppertunities for the angler, walker and river enthusiast.
