Cork is the largest county in Ireland. It has a vast and rugged coastline with many interesting towns and villages. Cork city was founded by St. Finbarr who built a monastary there, in the 7th century. It grew and continues to be a thriving merchant town
due to its magnificent well sheltered harbour.
To the south of the city is Cork International Airport and Ringaskiddy car ferry terminal serving Swansea, La Havre and Roscoff. About 5 miles Northwest of the city is Blarney Castle where it is said you can receive the gift of elloquence by kissing the Blarney stone.
Cork is a lively city with many festivals including the International Choral festival in April and the Film and Jazz festivals in October.
The North of the county has the river Blackwater, another of Irelands great fishing rivers, while the South and West is a favoured spot for holidaymakers due to its spectacular views and relaxed atmosphere, places like Bantry, Clonakilty and Skibbereen cannot be missed!
